Body Health for Social Dancers Workshop with Colleen Bickel PT, DPT, COMT

  • Gotta Dance 17945 NE 65th St #100 Redmond, WA 98052 USA (map)

Join physical therapist and professional dancer Colleen Bickel PT, DPT, COMT for this three hour intensive look into our own movement and health in social dancing. Often dancers are plagued by impairments that are not necessarily painful but adversely affect performance. (No partner required.)

This workshop is designed to:

-Improve understanding of anatomy and pathology as they relate to dance

-Demonstrate clear and effective tools with supporting education to prevent injury

-Refine performance by optimizing regions of the body

Students will work on:

-How to properly warm up/warm down before and after social dancing

-Injury Prevention & Healing

-Flexibility & Range of Motion

Saturday, June 7 2-5pm

Meet Your Instructor: M. COLLEEN BICKEL PT, DPT, COMT

I was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. After obtaining a degree in Modern Dance, I was able to tour as a professional dancer for many years. I traveled all over the United States before settling in NYC. Living the artist’s life in NYC was a dream come true, but after a while I realized I was longing to reconnect with nature. I graduated with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from UW and have called the PNW home ever since.

My passion has always been to understand the inner mechanics of the body, whether for the everyday functions of life or for the more intense activities of the professional athlete or weekend warrior. I believe there is no one method that works for everyone and I like to integrate different training and styles into my treatments. In my spare time you’ll find me dancing, reading, hiking, or shooting my recurve bow.
